Review taken from Nintendo: Now you can take the same great puzzle action from Pokémon Puzzle League on the road! Pokémon Puzzle Challenge is an action-packed Pokémon game for Game Boy Color, starring your favorite new Pokémon from Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver! As you travel from one gym to another battling tough trainers, you can unlock secret Pokémon, hatch pre-evolved Pokémon from eggs and eventually crown yourself as the ultimate Pokémon Puzzle Challenge Master. There are tons of gameplay modes to explore, including an intense head-to-head mode which lets you battle a friend using the Game Link Cable. The basic challenge is to flip blocks to line up combinations of colored symbols. If you can line up three identical blocks, they'll disappear from the screen and you'll score points. Rack up big combos and Active Chains to dump garbage on your opponent, and you'll come out on top. Pokémon Puzzle Challenge is easy to learn, but totally tough to master! Do you have what it takes to defeat the Pokémon Puzzle Champion and unlock all of the hidden Pokémon? Here are descriptions of the various modes of play in Pokémon Puzzle Challenge: Training Having trouble eliminating the Elite Four? Spend some time with Professor Elm in Training Mode to perfect your skills. This forgiving mode allows you to practice your Active Chains in slow motion, or if you prefer you can watch as a Puzzle Challenge master shows you how it's done. This is where the real action is! First you choose your difficulty, then you hit the road and challenge every Gym Leader you meet to a Pokémon Puzzle Challenge battle. If you perform certain tasks during the matches, you'll have the opportunity to capture new Pokémon from guest trainers in surprise battles. To reach the final Champion, you'll have to beat each and every trainer on the "Hard" difficulty level. Marathon In this maddening mode of play, you get to choose the speed and difficulty level. The goal is to rack up as many points as possible before your stack of blocks reaches the top of the screen. The better you perform, the cooler the ending animation will be. If you're really good, you could last for hours! Time Zone You choose the difficulty level and speed, then Professor Elm starts the clock. In each game, you get a limited amount of time to score as many points as possible. If you do well, you'll get to enter your initials on the Best Scores list. Line Clear You'll come face-to-face with seven different trainers in this challenge, and they all want to stop you in your tracks. If you can clear a specific number of lines before your stack of blocks reaches the top of the screen you'll get to progress to the next opponent. Puzzle Unlike the fast-paced action of the other modes, Puzzle Mode presents a stationary arrangement of blocks that you have to clear from the screen using a limited number of moves. The puzzles can get pretty hairy, but Professor Elm is usually kind enough to give you a few hints if you ask nicely. Garbage! The Garbage! Mode is very similar to Marathon Mode, but there is one major difference. You have to clear big piles of garbage blocks as they fall on your stack of blocks. For advanced players, this mode is a great way to sharpen those multiplayer skills. Two Players Once you've perfected your technique, pull out the Game Link Cable and take on a friend who also owns Pokémon Puzzle Challenge. The intense multiplayer action in this game is something that you definitely don't want to miss! |
